Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

I know yeah it is kinda funny, a lot of people who come here are from psp-hacks but it's like you mean, they're two totally different consoles.

The only reason I'm excited about CFW is because then i can play back-ups w/o modchip, I dont care for CFW as long as there could be an expliot found to have the wii pla backs ups via dvd.

Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

Yeah, why bother when you can just go out and get a chip installed.
Only thing is would did they exploit the Wii?

I'm pretty sure it involved taking it apart!

Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

if nintendo gets the chance they are going to try and exploit the wii to void the mod chips.

Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

Can't you get a D2CKey or Argon installed for you?

Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

i have a feeling that even if homebrew is created for wi that it will require a modchip to boot of DVD unless you can use the sd or usb ports.

ugh, once again I have to relate back to the PSP, any one remember the ISOLoader? well that's what will happen first, CFW wasn't the first thing to have ISOs, I've had ISOs since I got mine in July of 2005.

Consoles are a little different, but think of the PS2, no mod-chip needed, but alot of people still do it. Same with xbox.

Yeah doesnt any remember the UMDemulator that we use to use to load iso on psp firmware 1.5? and then after that doesnt anyone remember Boosters Devhook? which use to emulate the firmware to boot isos?

Iso loading does not require CFW!

My dad isn't a pro solder, lol and he was going to do it for me.  I hope they come out with a new wiikey with 5 solder points.

Re: Wii Homebrew Ideas

Ok, For dvd playback there is a way around, Theres two options.

as someone stated, the wii isnt made for continous reading, so that means that when you insert a game it loads it into ram, and only uses the disk for loading screens.

so maybe for dvd playback when you insert the disk it would dump 100mb of disk data to the Ram (ram size is 128mb for wii), it will then stop the dvd disk from being readen and would read the data from the ram, then when about 85mb of the 100mb data of the dump has been read, it would delete that 85mb and then dump another new 85mb and use the disk again for like 10 secs, it would keep doing this till the end of the movie, a movie is normally about 2gb, so 20 dumps approx each movie, at a slow steady speed, of 20 seconds each dump, that sounds possible, and wouldnt do any damage to the lens.

option 2

Dumping to the sd card.

pros

Lots of space in a sd card, can dump up two 2gb and not use the disk again

cons

sd card is 1000x slower in reading and writting data compared to ram.

disk would have to use the laser more to write more data without having a rest, and since sd cards are slow, then yeah it kinda points my theory out.
