[07.11.01] Wiikey update 1.9g (as in galaxy!) beta released!
We are pleased to announce that BETA HOTFIX v1.9g of the Wiikey firmware is now available to download. Please note that this is a BETA HOTFIX released as an immediate response to feedback from users regarding Super Mario Galaxy. It comes with absolutely no warranty or guarantees. Use it at your own risk! Feedback is welcome, but please send your message one time only. We can't reply to every message we get, but we do read all of them.
The Wiikey Team would like to thank all of those who sent in their messages of support over the last few days. Knowing that there are so many kind people out there has really made the whole thing worthwhile. Thanks! :-)

(Use instructions from below to install..)
MUST READ INFORMATION 2!:
Wiikey has finally brought out a new update and I will explain how to install it.
There is a new update and a new setup disc.
Links: v1.9b update and Setup Disc v1.3
v1.9b has these new features:
- audiofix fixed o_0
- dual layer support (no bitsetting required)
- improved media support (all supported chipsets)
- full Gamecube regionfree (no-swap/video setup)
- various "smaller" improvements/fixes
- workaround for FW 3.0 gameid limitation
(existing wkb 1.2 discs will boot again)
- "on the fly" settings for gc games (by holding buttons)
- toggle audiofix, diskspeed, force NTSC/PAL
v1.3 Setup Disc has these new features:
Version 1.3 of the wiiKey base system has an added configuration option
for the full gc region free feature. It also incrorporates a new version
of the wiikey dvdDump application.
How do I burn the ISO to a DVD?
I had a bit of trouble working this out but I eventually worked it out, this should fix any problems you run into. Just to add these both work on v3.0.
Extract both of these to v1.9b and v1.3.
Make a folder called Wiikey on your Local Disc C.
Paste filechop.exe from v1.3 and your update .iso file from v1.9b into the Wiikey folder.
Press the start button, then run type in cmd into the box and press enter.
Paste this in, each line is seperate after each one press enter.
c:
cd\
cd wiikey
filechop.exe wkupdate.1.9b.XXX.iso 1459978240
XXX stands for your region, so change it!
Then press enter and you will be finished.
Burn that to a disc and then install it. Now do the same for the update in v1.3.
Now just install v1.9b and then use the v1.3 Setup Disc as a replacement to your old v1.2 Setup disc. ![]()
MUST READ INFORMATION 3!:
The v3.0 firmware update has just been released and it explains if you have a chip that the update could affect it.
If you have updated your Wiikey it shouldn't have affected it whatsoever.
The one thing that doesn't work is the WiiKey Setup Disc, so packaged below is the ISO's that will work with v3.0
PAL WiiKey Setup ISO v1.2 (Working with v3.0)
NTSC-USA WiiKey Setup ISO v1.2 (Working with v3.0)
NTSC -JAP WiiKey Setup ISO v1.2 (Working with v3.0)
I hope I haven't missed anything....
MUST READ INFORMATION 4!:
Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy need special attention if you have a PAL Wii with the NTSC Versions of those games, It's all explained below..
Metroid Prime 3/Super Mario Galaxy double cd trick (BELOW)
Use v1.9g wiikey update
This is it:
Allright. There is a way around this "double your News and Weather Channel" stuff. Ive done this on TWO Wiis, both with the latest 3.0 firmware (including the little one that came some days after the big 3.0 that fixed som internet channel issues) and both are modded with CycloWiiz. This is step by step how I did it on TWO Wiis (PAL ofc, BOTH got no duplicate channels!!!):
1. Ofcourse download the game.
2. Extract the ISO-files with WinRAR.
3. Make TWO NEW FOLDERS.
4. Copy the original ISO and paste one into EACH of the new folders you have created.
5. Run ONE of the copyed ISOs (leave the original alone...!) with Brick Blocker.
6. Run the OTHER copyed ISO in Region Frii (convert FROM USA to PAL!) (dont know if runing it through Region Frii is necessary, but I did it...)
7. Now burn TWO discs. ONE with the ISO that was "BrickBlocked" and the second disc with the one that was "Region Friid" (keep order of which disc is Brick Blocked and which is Friid...!).
8. Now you have two copies of Metroid Prime 3, right?
9. Try to insert the BRICK BLOCKED game. Black screen. No problem.
10. Insert the Region Friid game. It will now say "Initiating Wii System Update" and you can press "OK". Press OK, then on the next message press "I accept".
11. NOW! Let the update run for SOME SECONDS. Let perhaps 10-15% of the bar get blue, then UNPLUG your wii console!!!!!!
12. Insert the power again, turn on your Wii. You do NOT have double channels now.
13. Insert the game that you Brick Blocked (the one that used to give you a black screen...). Let it load, and BOOM; it works. Now you have a working Metroid Prime game and a non-doubled Wii
I would make sure you're at 3.0E before attempting this though, just to be safe.
Nintendo Wii Section:
Q:What Wii games can you recommend?
A:The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Excite Truck
Mario Strikers Charged (Has online capabilities.)
Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Galaxy
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Q:How do I change the settings of my Wiikey?
A:Go to the Official Wiikey site, go to Resources and choose the top link under "Setup disc images"
Then click on the .bat file that is from your region, eg. Pal, US or JAP. Pal is for countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.(A few others)
Once you have clicked on the .bat file you should end up with an .iso file, burn that to a DVD and pop it in.
If you don't have a GameCube controller you will have to use the Reset button.
(Holding is open menu, clicking is down)
Click on "WiiKey Configuration"
Make sure the settings are as Follows:
Region Override - On
Audiofix - On
DVDR Speed - 6x (Try and keep this on 6x, problems arise otherwise.)
(These are the right settings, I've just been told.)
You are all done and ready to play!
(When you put the disc back in it will always have default the same settings, this is for stealth purposes so it doesn't mean the settings didn't save the first time.)
Q:How do I burn Wii Iso's to a DVD?
A:Download ImgBurn
Link:Official ImgBurn Website
Insert the correct blank DVD and open up ImgBurn, choose the ISO and then set the speed to X6 then burn.
I have tried burning at X6 and at X8, no problems so far.
Q:What DVD's should I use?
A:Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB X16.
Others are working, but if you have any problems make sure you try these before asking questions.
Q:I downloaded a Wii game and it's .Wii not .Iso, what should I do?
A:Download Rawdump v2.0 Link:Rawdump v2.0, choose convert Raw to Iso.
Q:I put the Wii game into my DVD Burner but it won't rip, how do I rip it?
A:You need certain DVD Burners * LG-8164b * LG-8163b * LG-8162b * LG-8161b.
Also you could buy an SD Adapter, they are cheaper and faster.
Q:How do I rip a Wii/GC game using the special branded LG-DVD Burner?
A:Download Rawdump v2.0
Open Rawdump and click start dump, although it won't be a short wait.
Q:How do I rip a Wii/GC game using an SD Adapter for the GC Memory card slot?
A:Go to the Official Wiikey site, go to Resources and choose the top link under "Setup disc images"
Make sure you have your SD Card connected to your P.C. and extract the Wiikey Setup disc. Open dvddump.exe in the dvddump folder and choose the drive your SD Card is under. Once it's completed put your SD Card into Slot A in the GC Memory Card part, boot up the WiiKey v1.2 Setup Disc and choose DVDDump, then when it promts put in the Disc you wish to dump.
The rest will explain itself on the screen. (I haven't been able to get it work , due to a few problems. 1. the Gecko is faulty I think. 2. I can't get dvddump.exe to start. 3. It says my memory card is corrupt, I think thats because it's not Fat16.)
Q:What is NTSC-U, NTSC-J and PAL.
A:NTSC-U, the USA region Wii/Wii games. NTSC-J, the Japanese region Wii/Wii games. PAL, the EUROPE region Wii/Wii games
Q:My Wii gives me a disc read error (DRE), what should I do.
A:This could be a combination of things, make sure you have the right DVD the Wii ISO is good and your are using the right program to burn.
Q:What does Semi-Brick and Brick mean? and what can I do if I have one?
A:If your Wii is bricked it means that your Wii won't turn on, yes it means it won't be able to play games!
If your Wii is Semi-Bricked it will still be able to play games but you won't be able to change any settings.
There is a different solution to fixing both of these problems.
Brick: Replace everything inside your Wii, not including the DVD-Drive.
Semi-Brick: Wait for an update and update your system using a game from your Region.
Q:How do I stop any risks of bricking?
A:Update your Wii before playing a Wii game that has an update or only use Wii Games from your Region. In Australia, the newest Software Version is 2.2 E I had no problems.
You can also patch the ISO beforehand Link: WiiBrickBlocker
(This is for people who can't update their Wii regularly or don't want to risk it.)
Q:Can I still go online with my Wii?
A:At this time yes!
Q:I Just downloaded a Wii Iso, what should I do before burning it to a DVD?
A:If it's not from your Region, get Regionfree. Open Regionfree, choose your Iso and then patch it to your Region Wii.
Q:Can I use any DVD's including DVD-R and DVD+R?
A:Yes, but not all of them work I suggest using the Verbatim 4.7GB X16 DVD-R.
Q:I am using Vista what software do I use to burn to DVD's?
A:ISO Recorder V3
Link:Iso Recorder
Q:Where do I keep the compatibility with other region games?
A:Wii Region Free Compatibility List
Nintendo GameCube Section: (Still working on it..)
Just a note, not all GameCube games are working 100% as of yet.
Q:What GameCube games can you recommend?
A:The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Tales of Symphonia (Personal favorite.)
Super Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Super Mario Strikers
Resident Evil
Q:Can I use the Nintendo Wii Controller to play GC Games?
A:No, that would require the Software to be changed.
Q:Do you need a GameCube Memory card to make saves?
A:Yes, I tried my Gecko SD Adapter and it said something like insert correct memory card.
You can pick up 64 or 128mb Gamecube memory cards for dirt cheap.
Q:How do I rip a GameCube game to P.C?
A:I think it's the same as with a Wii Game.
(Go to the I put the Wii game into my DVD Burner but it won't rip, how do I rip it? Question.)
Q:How do I burn a GameCube game to DVD-R/DVD+R?
A:After downloading or ripping a GameCube Game you should end up with a .gcm file, you can change it straight to .iso and then burn it like a regular Wii .iso.
(Go to the How do I burn Wii Iso's to a DVD? Question.)
Q:How do I set up a MultiGame(GCOS) Disc?
A:You can put a maximum of 3 games onto one 4.7GB DVD-R, this is because the small GC Games only held 1.4GB.
Download Wii Ui, Link:WiiUIv130
Extract the .rar file and put your GC .iso's in the same folder.
Open Wii UI.exe and Choose your Region and how many games you want.
(Make sure your have changed the Region before going ahead. Use RegionFrii Gui.)
Now click on Make ISO and type in the name you want the ISO to be and press save, then choose the games you want to have and click save, one by one.
In the end you should have a .ISO that you can burn straight to disc.
You can extract the ISO using this program:I will get a link to another site later
It's by djiraan.
Also Emu_kidd has released a program that deletes the dummy files from GC iso's allowing you to store more than 3 games onto one disc, you will have to search about this yourself.
(does anyone know what Unscramble ISO does?)
Q:Do I have to use the small DVD's?
A:You can use the same DVD's as you use for the Wii Games.
Q:If I download a GameCube game that uses 2 discs what should I do?
A:I would burn both of them to separate DVD's just incase you need to swap them.
Q:I have a GC ISO that isn't 1,425,760 KB, will it still work?
A:It depends, I burnt my games as a single GCOS MultiDisc and they worked.
But I have read that they should still work unless they are corrupt, so don't worry if it's not the right size.
The same can't be said for Wii ISO's.
IMPORTANT
To save games you need a GC Memory card.
Nintendo GameCube Homebrew Section:
Q:What can I play?
A:Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advanced
SEGA Megadrive
SEGA Genisis
SEGA Mastersystem
NES
SNES
NeoGeo Pocket/Color
TurboGrafx16
Q:Where do I get the roms?
A:Torrents, or just download them from a Rom Site. (I can't give links.)
Q:Do I need a GameCube Controller?
A:Yes!
Q:What do I use?
A:You can use a disc.
To make one using a DVD with roms. download: I will get a different link later
Once you have it get the roms, just say you have a GBC rom paste it into the GBC folder. Now open MakeWiiEmus.bat and choose your Region, now burn the WiiEmus.iso you end up with!
Now All I need to do is upload the files somewhere else...
IMPORTANT
To save games you need a GC Memory card.
Downloaded Game Section:
Q:I just downloaded a Wii/GC Game and I have all these files what do i do?
A:The files will either be .rar or .zip.
Download Winrar if they are .rar files and WinZip if they are .zip files.
Use these programs once installed to extract the .iso/.gcm/.wii.
Q:What methods are there for getting games?
A:Ripping them from discs try Blockbuster, torrents or you could PM me for a great site.
I will be adding more as I learn more!
If you see any problems PM me.
Update* Wow, looks like I just did a huge update..
Games recently released:
Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Galaxy

Actually id recommend you change the title more on the lines of, Wii Iso Tutorial (With special Wiikey info!!) because i have a cyclowiz and this helped a lot.
Offline
When I come up with a good name for the title, I will have to get a mod/admin to change it.
So you think it's all good, nothing needs changing?

Offline
Seems a really good usefull guide and could stop a lot of the same questions being asked over and over, good work ![]()
Yeah, very usefull tutorial. I like it.
Offline
So I have done a huge update and I am thinking it is almost complete, what do you think?
Also I came up with a name: The Ultimate WiiKey FAQ.
EDIT:(obviously I didn't use that name..)

Very nice guide ![]()
The gamecube section could do with a bit more tidying, emu_kidid created a Selfboot GCOS multigame programme, the app used to shrink GC games is called GCMUtility.
A link to a nice user friendly GUI of emu_kidid's programme which incorporates GCMUtility can be found half way down this page byPatman666
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread … mp;page=31
Also maybe a section on running homebrew through GC mode would be helpful.
Hope this helps ![]()
edit> you don't change the region of GC iso's, GCOS lets you select which region mode to run it in before playing.

Thanks, I don't have much knowledge with GC as I never owned one and the only person I knew that had one was in another state.
I will have to look into GC homebrew although it doesn't interest me as I have a psp.
(I can't wait to start playing some old GC games.)

Offline
The only GC homebrew I've used are emulators, but putting them onto DVD means you can fit a LOT of games on ![]()
Here's the link for the app I used
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread … =emulators
Updated, I just added the v3.0 update. Thanks to Falcon212.

Offline
I have changed it a little.
A few people said it needs pictures, so I am getting on that if you think some are over the top PM Me.

Nice tut

ok, question #1
How do I get the Roms to work?
(I.E Game Boy, GBA, NES, SNES.)
Offline
I'm getting on fixing that now, thanks for pointing that out.
In the mean time try to get some Roms and learn about them.

Offline
I know a shit load about them but how do i play them on the Wii, i hack my psp with homebrews and other stuff, but thats all i need to know is how.
Thanks. ![]()

Alright then.
I will try and do it sometime this week, but I am really busy.
If you want to look for me I would be happy to put it in the FAQ.

Offline
burn the emulator as GCOS along with roms and play it on ur wii ![]()
Offline
How would you do that?
you would have a .dol file and a rom folder with your roms right?
Now how would you go about burning it as a GCOS?

Offline
well, NES, SNES, Sega Genesis emulator that I have downloaded in a single DVD with GCOS seems working
with 2500 titles of roms of course...
So, IT IS possible, coz I just downloaded all in iso, so I don't know the details how to do that, but i assume as long as you have all the emulators and roms, just add on will do

How do i burn them in GCOS?
Any specific way i should put the files on the disk?
Offline
No, once you use GCOS you end up with an ISO....

Offline
oooh, i see
Can i use a cd not a dvd?
Offline
You still end up with a ISO, so of course you will need a DVD.
