Everybody Should Vote on the Relevance of this Addition

February 20, 2007 – In a surprise unannounced addition to the Wii Channel interface, Nintendo recently released the Everybody Votes Channel. This was available for download in the Wii-Ware section in the Shop Channel after a Wii system update. Fortunately the download is free. I can’t imagine Nintendo charging customers money for such a shallow addition to the Wii Channel interface.
I don’t see how this channel is at all practical, or relevant to the Wii experience. All I see is a way for Nintendo to disguise their market research in the form of a free channel download. If you look at the poll results (especially the World Wide results) it reveals the trends of member opinions based on their location, and sex.
Sure, the questions they ask seem harmless, ex. What is your favorite colour? Blue or red? Could this not be a possible hot topic issue at Nintendo for future costume development for a new character? Or maybe some Nintendo exec’s are arguing over the release of coloured Wii systems and there was a dispute over which colours to release.
At any rate, I can’t see the use of this channel becoming a staple in any Wii owners daily dose of gaming. There is so much potential for some really useful channel additions and the Everybody Votes channel seems like a joke.
Everyone should vote on whether or not this channel is a welcome addition, or a clever way for Nintendo to more intimately know their customers preferences.
Of course you are right many of the researches will be used for future products but i think why not??? there is nothing to say against a product which was made for me. I think the channel is quite funny it is nothing which i would call a must have but i must say i like it. Sorry for my worse englisch im german;)

It may not be the most useful channel for us but I think its a good idea. I mean if it means we see more of what we want in future games then thats a huge plus.
man this site is growing too slowly. they should start posting some videos or accidental “i punched my grlfriend in the face” stories. cant they like link with wiihaveaproblem.com or something. i mean common, someone finds an interesting way to wipe their ass while holding a psp and this whole bloody community just HAS to know how to preform this hack… anywho, just saying is all

Oh noes, a company that might cater to its audience…the horror?
I believe my article was focusing on the RELEVANCE of the channel–not whether or not Nintendo is listening to their customers. The whole point of my article was that Nintendo already has methods to conduct market research, and that the Wii Channel interface isn’t an appropriate platform to do so.
We all expect quality from Nintendo, right?
Why should we settle for such shallow channels like the Everybody Votes Channel? Wouldn’t it be better if we could have a game demo, music, or video channel?
Wii owners would not argue that these channels would be well received.
Hey, this channel caters to those who like/love it. in fact, my niece loves it and the only thing she hate’s is the wait time for the results. From what I’ve herd picking her up from school is just about everyone her age is jealous of this new feature.
You have to remember that the wii was designed to appeal to every age group. Not just to self centered assholes such as yourself. Now your “Article” could hold some water if Nintendo was like sony, who basis customer satisfaction on the sales of a game, and good the graphics are, opposed to the actually feelings of the consumers reflected all over magazines, web pages and personal hearsay.
true that channel is not exactly a “huge” update to the wii experience but i still don´t think its any research at all .. i mean come on “what do you like more cats or dogs” .. wh00t ? dogs ? who would´ve believed that .. huge surprise .. nothing a research company would ask you ..

Maybe it’s not a huge addition to the wii, but it aligns itself well with the overall aesthetic Nintendo is trying to generate with the console (namely: community). I also agree with Batmanishguy for the most part; while older folks may not love the channel, younger folks probably will.
My only fear is that they will only cater to this audience. Time will tell.
Word on the net is that the ‘Everybody Vote’ channell was a way to check out its online caperbillities and iron out any of the problems before they have released any of there ‘LIVE’ games such as the new pokemon game that is coming out…
this seems to make perfect sense, because although there is limited interactivity, there is still that activity and nintendo are able to moniter this and make any changes before the serious games kick in.
Personally I enjoy it, and like to take part in the daily votes and I just hope it doesnt die off when the online gaming kicks in.
