August 8, 2007 – Considering this is a hack & mod site it is most important to start with the bad. Nintendo has sent a message to all Wii owners warning “If your Wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console.” News of this firmware update is still fresh, and we’ve yet to test this, or hear any comments on which mod chips are affected or if they all remain unaffected. Update with caution!
On to the good…
There is now a digital clock placed on the main menu reminding players that time flies when they’re inevitably having fun. Another change to the Wii menu will be found on the forecast channel. Now the forecast channel will display the current weather in the channel selection interface. The message board now has a new “Today’s Accomplishments” option to display games you’ve played.
The Wii Shop channel has had a considerate makeover. The welcome screen has been redone, showing four recommended titles. There is now a list of popular titles, and new options to search for games by name, genre, and publisher.
Finally, USB keyboards can now be used to type as opposed to pointing in some channels. The Wii Shop Channel, and memo and mail writing can now utilize USB keyboard support. Unfortunately, the USB keyboard is not compatible with the Opera browser as of yet—but it could be safe to assume this trend will eventually follow onto web browsing.

Nothing really special in this update, i have a wiikey and got no problems with the update. Only thing that has problems is the setup disk 1.1, but starting to read fixes for the 1.2 release. Just google it, bit disappointing update “WOW A CLOCK!!!!”

face it kiddies the wii doesn’t even have hacks only 2 new posts on this site in like 3 months the psp does a shit load more that the wii without all the mod-chipping, whats the mod chip do for the wii? allow it to play dvds! ha ha lol, its not even blu-ray! the ps3 is expensive due to blu-ray technology (which for games blu-ray is str8^ bad ass).
but if i do recommend the wii, only to those whose kids weigh 150lbs more than the parents!

Yeah wii is good for backed up games but update wise its very poor, i have a ps3 too and alot of ppl bitched about the updates being bad but this is even worse. Come on nintendo bring some worth while updates!

Blue-ray will die in a year or so as downloadable content replaces the use of discs. It really doesn’t make much of a difference for games as PS3 games use only like 1/3 of the blueray’s storage space.
ummm…no it wont….blu ray will live…unless you plan on downloading a 20gb, i mean, even if you have broadband, doesnt mean your gonna juss have ur console downloading, you must have a pc download shit too…come on really…think about it

I updated my Wii & I’ve just got a CycloWiz… Some gmea play perectly but some don’t… I have yet to try other media… I may lat you know… Some games work (with minor sound glitches on GameCube games), some don’t work at all… we’ll see
maybe I’ll post a list of what works on my Wii using cheapo media, when I’m not drunk…

Why no USB support in Opera. The PS3 has it. They should should make USB support in everything except the games.
so is it safe to buy a wiikey? I put in the order through www.wiikey.com/cn but I haven’t paid yet, as I don’t know if I should go through with it. and I don’t want to install something, do an update and have a brick. I really could use a broken down explanation of what’s going on with the wiikey. Is it old? Is it a bad idea right now? should I just wait and see what happens? This update makes me nervous. Please someone explain this, is there stealth firmware or custom firmwares? can I still use my wii like normal? Is there an on/off switch for the hack? do I disconnect from the net when playing a backup? The psp was easy to understand, but this is new to me. I looked into the 360 site too and the wii and 360 confuse me because of online play and downloads. Please break it down for me

Unupdated PAL Wii + USA game with update that loads vis RegionFrii (homebrew app exe) = brick (or USA + new PAL game) unless you use WiiBrickBlocker (homebrew app exe). Damn I’m glad I haven’t got a mac

Just got a confirmation E-mail from the manufactures of the wiip, that they are NOT having any problems with the new firmware update.
just updated to 3.0E and my pal and nstc backups still work. ive got a wiip with openwii 2.1 i think.wooooooooooooooowhoooooooo!!!!!!!
So that’s it. Nothing new for the Wii? So can someone make a list of everything you can do with the Wii? All I know of for sure is Gamecube and Wii backups (originals owned) can be loaded. Is that it?

Don’t worry, I’ll answer myself. So much activity here on the site. Yes, you can also use emulators for NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and N64. Any others work? MAME or Dreamcast? I would love to see Dreamcast discs being loaded on the Wii.
same here, I love the dreamcast and if someone could do that it would save me some space when it comes to wires and my sega saturn.
I think it’s possible because Dreamcast used GDR’s and I can rip my DC games to pc and then-there has to be a way to convert or maybe even add a patch to the DC iso to boot on Wii. Different company, but if I’m not mistaken same format? (GDR’s) This has to be possible and I know it’s a freakin’ sweet idea…Please, I know somebody can figure it out.

yeah, and now 360 is coming out with legit Dreamcast games on its live arcade…Still want them on wii, but I don’t think it can handle it. I could be wrong though.

Upgraded mine with no problems (bit lazy and only finally just got around to doing it!), still plays all my backups aswell.
I’ve looked at so many photos of clones/originals of wiikey, and mine looks just like an original v3, but I am told it’s a clone just because I bought it from wiikey.com.cn and they say that’s the biggest clone site there is…But it looks real. What’s the drawback? You know, pros and cons of having an original and having a clone. As far as I know, the official wiikey setupdisc won’t work with a clone-from what I’ve read. And that’s it as far as I know…I would like all the info I can get before I make the install, the mail will be here in about an hour or two-then I will FINALLY have that damn triwing I keep bitching about…

Amazing! I finally got my triwing this morning! You might not know how many different things I’ve tried to use for those pesky lil triwing screws…Flatheads, bent flatheads, broken phillips-head, fingernail clippers, nail file, melted pen, and now finally-I have the real screwdriver. It feels so good…I’ll come back and post when I fxck up my install, cause I’m so excited…
Ok, so it’s been installed for a couple of hours, I just am having some trouble here and I’ve been searching everywhere for a fix…I have it installed and only originals boot-no backups, no config disc. I have NTSC usa Wii with 3.0 fw. I installed after my fw was already 3.0. Please help
nvm, of course, two solder points were touching…lol. Needless to say, it works now. Thanks for all the help:(
I was playing a backup, and all of a sudden it stopped and gave me an error message. I eject and put it back in, and most of the time I can continue. But later on, it wouldn’t work anymore and I had to power off my console. I tried other games and they all worked fine, so I played a different one for a while. No probs. Then I tried ANOTHER game and this time disc read error. Now none of the backups work, and if I wait for a while with power off, it will work for a while…What the heck is going on with my key? Or is it that I used Imation dvd+rw’s for everything? I heard they’re among the worst to use. But they did work for a while…My solder points are beautifully intact and separate from each other, and config disc never did work, but I think it’s because of the fw3.0…Maybe when the ‘official’ update is available, I can get past this?
Tried re-installing, this time quick-solder method. No dice:( Wtf? Still plays originals and no backups. Frustration is settling in, as this is day 2 of trying to play my backups, and still no help online. So I think I might remove it and use some long ass wire, bring the key outside the console, and tape it to the side…Anybody think it’s a bad idea? What should I do?

Its, to be frank, crap. Yes, it has good grafx’ but.. thats pretty much it. people fail to realize the ps1 is a creation of nintendo too .. when nintendo partnered up with sony to make a cd system for a console ( i forgot which one.. i dunno ) i think if i remember correctly the copyright or something failed, and sony took whatever info they had on this new cd thingie and used it to make nintendo’s rival console.
And of course you know about the last minute change to the ps3 console controllers.. hmm. wonder where they came from. ( -cough-wiimotes-cough )
Yeh, at the start of the wii’s life.. it wasnt the greatest in the world. it wa snew, fresh and fun. but now, the wii is starting to bud. it is making new things.. ( lightgun thingie-muh-bob ) new games which look absalutely amazing ( super mario galaxy and metroid prime 3, anyone? ) even though the arguments with the grafx’ .. even though grafx’ dont matter.

The wii has completely revolutionized gameplay, never before has it Ever been so involved, i mean nintendo had the game pad for the floor for olympic games lol. I am and always will be a Nintendo fan,
unfortunately i doubt that the wii will ever play DC games cause Dreamcast was bought out by microsoft….the same makers of xbox and the 360.
Btw, thought id say that my D2Ckey is working perfectly, even plays super mario galaxy
, we put it on without the solder point, and it could play backups but no originals lol, so went back in and then added it, works fine now.
i dont use it online tho
and for the record with the d2ckey the ‘optional’ ‘j’ solder point for region override, is not optional
As for graphix theres an ati card in there, and some new games that just got released have some pretty impressive in game screenshots.
not to advertise other wii sites, but wii scene has the new titles for the wii that come out (my news source for new games)

Just cause you dont have one and cant get it modded if you do doesnt mean you get to take it out on others…(why does it feel like im talking to a 12 year old….) Most modded wiis can play dvds now, look into it, i can watch them on my modded d2c wii (stupid harder mod!)
Meh. The only thing about the nintendo at the moment is.. well.. Do we have to do everything ourselfs? .. you would think that by the comments of the gamecube they would of learned a little.. and at least added dvd functions without the use of added chips and hacks of the sort.
I updated my wii to 3.1u and Super Mario Galaxy backup doesnt work, (on wiikey modchip). I’m pretty sure the rest of my backups work, i was testing some out. Is their is a way to get super mario galaxy to work again, please HELP?
