Nintendo Australia lowering prices for some big titles

January 19, 2007 – The much criticized price-point of Wii games in the land down under is having a favourable result. Nintendo Australia PR, Vispi Bhopti has assured Aussies that the Wii game prices will drop. Games like Warioware: Smooth Moves, Kororinpa, and Wing Island have been confirmed to retail for AU$79.95 when they are available for sale later this year.
“With the Wii and DS, we’re examining the audience demographics to figure out the best price-point with which to expand the market. We did that with our Touch Generations! games, and we’re going to be doing the same in the future with some Wii titles.”
In laymans terms, Nintendo is acknowledging some of their games are over-priced considering the ages of their customer base. It will be interesting to see if third party developers will drop their prices in order to compete with the discounted Nintendo pricing. There is some unfortunate news for Aussies looking forward to purchasing Excite Truck when it hits store shelves February 22nd. Nintendo plans to set the price at AU$99.95 which is a full AU$20 more than their new game pricing.
